Super 8 by Wyndham Port Elgin

The staff were polite and tried to help, but we got no follow-up after they took pictures and said they’d speak with the manager. We stayed at Super 8 by Wyndham Port Elgin with family and friends last weekend, and were very disappointed by the room condition and apparent lack of cleaning and quality control. Our first room was listed as non-smoking but smelled strongly of smoke, and there were long hairs in the bathtub. Staff moved us right away when we asked. The second room seemed better at first, but then we found moldy food in the refrigerator, something that looked like vomit on the side of the toilet, and dirty, soiled towels left in the bathroom cabinet.

The staff were really friendly and polite, but this visit wasn’t as good as my many previous ones, and I may try another location next time. I was disappointed that nobody offered a 10% discount for the concerns I raised. In room 128, a king business room, on Feb 1, 2026, the bed was very comfortable and the heated bathroom floor was lovely. But I reported many little ants in the bathroom the next morning. I’d seen a few on arrival and thought it might be normal, then there were many more during the night, so I kept my garbage tired and contained because of them. The room had no coffee, glasses, or clock. The TV remote wouldn’t connect. I called the desk at 7 pm and waited 45 minutes while two people figured it out, but it still wouldn’t connect the next morning. At 7:45 am breakfast, the eggs were dry, sausage burnt, potato patties cold, and bagel dry. I mentioned it and they offered to make a fresh batch, but I had to leave. The coffee was great.

The workers were incredibly nice, and the lady at the front desk even moved us to an available poolside room as a kind gesture. The place was very sanitary and the beds were comfortable. For a motel, the facilities were incredible: indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, sauna, and hot tub, plus a varied free breakfast. In all my years of traveling, this was the first hotel where I’d had bacon in the morning. There were baked goods like muffins and bagels, eggs, bacon, and even a cute little waffle machine.

We booked a 2 Queen Beds, Business Room, Pool View, Lower Floor, Non-Smoking, but there was no coffee or tea maker and no extra sitting area. The front desk said the mini-refrigerator was what made it a business room, though the website listed the same details for both room types. I usually expect a business room to have a small sofa or extra seating. The hot tub needed a jumpstart from the front desk, the sauna wasn’t hot, and the pool was cold with dirty lining. Parts of the pool area floor were coming up. There was also no notice of the town’s planned power outage from 8 am to 12 pm Sunday, March 29, even though I booked Friday, March 27 at 9:00 pm and the website said nothing about it. I’ll check other hotels next time I’m in town. This one is a last resort.
