Wildwood Motel

The front desk clerk was pleasant, but the room was definitely not. We’re exploring the Maritimes on holiday and had booked after reading reviews that called the motel “pleasant.” There were stains on the walls, curtains, and bedding that looked like old blood. The shower curtain had black mould spots, and the base of the toilet was filthy. We were so tired on arrival that we stayed, but morning couldn’t come soon enough. We’d booked two nights and reluctantly left after one.

Nothing much to expect here, just a standard motel with no extra frills or services. It’s a place to crash for the night, take a shower, then get back on the road. The town is at a perfect stopover distance between Halifax-Lunenburg and Digby-Briar Island.

Amazing location, friendly service, and clean rooms. It’s quaint and comfortable, with excellent value for the cost. We’ll come back.

We certainly didn’t feel safe here. The room was incredibly dirty, with dead bugs and cobwebs, and the bathroom fixtures were rust stained and dirty. I don’t think the floors had ever been mopped. The windows were nailed shut from outside, and the room door didn’t lock properly. We travel with our own bedding, and even after laying our sheets over the bed, we threw them away afterward. Breakfast was advertised but wasn’t offered. They were turning potential guests away despite having at least 8 empty rooms. No one was around at checkout, so we had to leave the key in the room. It’s a real shame. From the photos, probably taken about 10 years ago, it looked like a well cared for, enjoyable mom and pop motel. Since it was sold, the quality and pride of ownership have drastically declined. I hate giving it a 1 star rating, but there wasn’t an option for 0 stars. If I had to compare it to something, I’d say Bates Motel from Psycho.
