The sliding door for the closet and bathroom wouldn't lock, and since it sits right by the room entrance, it didn't feel very private. Housekeeping only came every other day, which was fine by me. Otherwise, this is a clean, modern, practical hotel. The basic free breakfast was adequate, the fitness facilities were excellent, and checking in and out through the app was convenient. It's just off the highway, close to places to eat, gas, and shopping.
I was in St Catharines for a funeral and needed a room for one night. The place felt safe for me as a woman on my own, and everything from the lobby to my room was clean and modern. The complimentary breakfast impressed me, with plenty to choose from, including scrambled eggs and hash browns. I'd happily stay here again.
I liked the room layout here. We had a king room, and the pull-out bathroom shelves gave us plenty of spots for our things. The bed was comfortable, and the hotel was quiet. I'm glad there wasn't a microwave, since I don't like the idea of people preparing food in the room where I sleep because of the added chance of bugs. I did appreciate the mini fridge. Breakfast was typical and okay, and I liked having real plates and cups. As a tea drinker, I was happy to find hot water and tea in the lobby. The pool was pleasantly warm, and the front desk staff were friendly and efficient.
I don't usually leave hotel reviews, but our stay for a football tournament at Brock University was worth mentioning. I shared the room with teammates, and it was very clean, with a comfortable bed. Before turning in, we watched the Jay’s game at the World Series from bed. There was a good desk for studying and a mini fridge for snacks. I also enjoyed breakfast downstairs. I tried the boiled eggs expecting them to be overcooked and grey, but they were surprisingly good. I've stayed at many Hilton Hampton Inns, and I'd recommend this one for a stay in St. Catherine’s.
We checked in and found someone else's belongings already in our room. The front desk employee came back upstairs with us to confirm the new room was okay, and took our keys and papers. Unfortunately, those papers had the front desk Wi-Fi code, since Wi-Fi wasn't working in the rooms. The next morning, a false fire alarm woke us before 7 a.m. It kept ringing for over 30 minutes, and someone said they didn't know where the panel was to turn it off. After we returned from a wedding, our room keys wouldn't work and we had to go back to the desk again. The staff were pleasant and helpful, but the stay was very frustrating.
