The people here made the place feel like home, with good cooking smells, real conversation and friendly smiles from some of the long term guests. Dave went out of his way to help with everyone's needs, while Roxanne and Jeff kept everything tidy and managed the check ins and check outs. It was easy to settle in, and the welcome felt natural. I stayed five nights and was sorry I couldn't make it several weeks. It's a great base for seeing St. John's, with lovely neighbours around and a nice coffee shop up the hill. I felt safe there too.

There isn't much of a reception desk, so booking online definitely makes check in easier. The manager was quick to answer my questions when I arrived. It's a very good budget hostel and a convenient base for exploring the city. I'll be back.

There's only one fridge, so storage is a little tight, but the stay was still great. The location is fantastic, the staff were kind and helpful, and the street outside had a real St. John’s feel. The building's a bit dated, which gives it character, and the beds were super comfortable. I also really appreciated how clean everything was, from the rooms to the kitchen. They're working on adding a second shower. Even now the place felt well managed, and the cozy kitchen was clean and stocked with everything you might need, plus plenty more. Generous travelers had left a huge amount of food, which gave it a nice sense of community. Thanks for a memorable stay!

Dave went out of his way to help us find somewhere to stay and was incredibly accommodating. Roxanne was a joy to meet, too. My partner and I had a warm, welcoming stay at this charming hostel. Thanks!

David, the owner, and Roxanne, one of the volunteers, were especially courteous and welcoming. The staff and volunteers were kind, and I met lots of nice people to enjoy SJ NL with. The living arrangements felt safe and clean for a short or longer stay. Newfoundland is a gorgeous province in Canada, please visit!
