The Murray Premises Hotel

The downtown location made it really convenient to explore, and the historic photos on the walls were a nice touch. But the room was very dark even with the lamps, and the bed was hard and lumpy, badly in need of replacement. The shower curtain was gross, yellow, with bright blue body wash stuck to it. It was okay for one night.

We wanted somewhere downtown within walking distance of Water Street, and the location worked great. It’s a funky old warehouse conversion, with a king bed, a large main room with chairs and a desk, and a big bathroom with a tub and two-person shower. The glass wall between the bathroom and main room was a bit odd. Parking was plentiful, and breakfast had fruit, muffins, croissants, yogurt, and oatmeal. My only room complaint was hearing people talk through the walls.

Adverse weather made downtown completely inaccessible, and the show we were going to was canceled too. We called to ask about rebooking for the next week or adjusting our plans, but the hotel refused outright. We used to stay here every year because we liked supporting a local place. They came across like a cold corporation, so we won't spend our money here again.

I've stayed here many times without problems, but this visit was uncomfortable and the cost didn't feel justified. The room looked carelessly cleaned: there was hair and other debris on the toilet seat, just two tissues in the only tissue box, and almost no soap in the dispenser. It was noisy after midnight, though the front desk did speak to the guests. People also kept gathering by the garbage box below our window at different times overnight, talking loudly and making noise. A little getaway turned into a string of frustrations, and I won't book here again.
