Galaxy Motel

The room smelled and was very dirty, and the heat didn’t work, so it was unbearably cold. The walls were thin enough that we could hear the long-term guests next door singing at 3:30 a.m. Then I had no hot water for an early shower. When we tried to speak with the clerk, he was rude and dismissive. Hotels.com contacted the hotel for us, but the clerk wouldn’t agree to a partial refund, so apparently there was nothing they could do. It was extremely frustrating. I didn’t expect much from a two-star hotel, but heat and hot water are basic requirements. Do NOT stay here.

I stayed here for three months because the motel deal worked out better than renting. My family visited on weekends, and we got to see parks and other towns around Lakeland. The owners were kind, and when I forgot my key at work, they lent me a spare without any fuss. The room was comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, and the location in town made it easy to walk to work and shops. A great stay in St. Paul!

This is a cheap place to lay your head. If you’re expecting five-star service, keep driving.

I came by a few days ahead to ask about rates for a biweekly stay and a monthly one. The guy at the desk quoted $450 biweekly and $1,000 a month. It didn’t quite add up, but I assumed they knew what they were doing. When I came back tonight to book, I was told “biweekly” meant once a week. So that’s $450 a week, or $1,800 for four weeks, while two weeks would be $900. None of the numbers lined up, and I know people who pay less to stay there monthly. It turned into a huge headache. I get paid biweekly, meaning every two weeks, though maybe I’ve been getting paid wrong my whole life. I was told Galaxy Motel was the cheapest option in St. Paul, but I guess I’ll never know, since they can’t get their story straight. I’d rate it lower.
