My room was clean and looked really nice. The drawers were clean too, and I was happy to find two extra pillows inside, along with plenty of toilet paper, soap, and shampoo. The staff were amazing and so kind. They checked on me several times, and the woman at the front desk was polite when I checked out. While I waited for a taxi, the main manager even offered me a ride, which was incredibly kind. They made me feel special. The sheets were very thin, so I got a bit chilly on some nights. The heat took a while to turn on, then even longer to warm the room by much. Even with that, I still had a nice stay and would definitely come back. Give the place a try!

The owner was very accommodating and helped where he could, and the place was clean overall and good value for the price. It’s handy for walking to a grocery store and restaurant. The beds are hard, so I ordered a topper for my stay. The shower curtain was moldy and the sheets were worn. Bring your own shampoo. The toilet paper is better than at most hotels. TV channels are limited, and the small TV wasn’t great when it was my only entertainment at work, but I made do.

The room smelled almost as bad as the stale old smoke at the front office, which could singe your nose hairs. It’s outdated, grungy, and poorly maintained inside and out. The sink light didn’t work, and the blanket had holes that looked like cigarette burns. At least the stairs didn’t kill me. The AC, fridge, microwave, and TV all worked, there was hot water for a shower, and they changed the towels every day, hopefully to clean ones. It’s passable for one night if there’s absolutely nowhere else to stay. I wouldn’t choose it for a week or more unless your standards are pretty low.

The owner was nice, and we had a bit of banter, so no complaint there. I wish Heartland Lodge well and will probably come back to give it another try. But this was a cold night. The blankets were thin, and even with the thermostat cranked to 30, I couldn’t shake the chill. Maybe the thermostat was broken, or maybe the building’s insulation is the problem. Who knows. I paid for a warm bed and didn’t get one, and I woke up tired. When it’s -20 or colder, an extra blanket in the room would help. Nobody should have to sleep in their clothes at a motel to stay warm. I wanted to leave a glowing five-star review for a small business, but I can’t honestly do that after this stay. Godspeed.

The old guy wanted to know why I had put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. When I opened room #10, I was hit by an unpleasant smell, probably mold. I tried using my cologne to cover it, but removing and replacing the carpet seems like the best fix. I can’t give this place more than one star.
