Loyalist Country Inn & Conference Centre

The Loyalist Country Inn was reasonably priced, and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. The hot breakfast was included, with potatoes, sausages, scrambled eggs, yogurt, and pastries. It was decent, though exactly the same each morning, so a bit more variety would help. We were there for a family wedding and had booked two rooms with two queen beds each. One wasn’t available when we arrived, so for the first night we got a king room with a cot. We were a group of six and tried to make it work. The next day we needed both rooms to get ready, but the second room wasn’t ready until after 4:00pm. With a 2 o’clock ceremony, we had to keep going between rooms, which was extremely stressful. The situation felt disorganized, and the staff seemed a bit confused, though kind and as accommodating as they could be. If we’d received the room we booked, this wouldn’t have been necessary. The air conditioning didn’t work until our last day, and it seemed the whole hotel had trouble with it. At least the windows open, and being right by the water meant a great breeze at night. It’s a comfortable, affordable hotel with great staff, but the organization, A/C, and breakfast variety could all be better.

It’s a little worn, like a favourite chair, but comfortable and homey. The rooms were clean, the bed was super comfortable, and it was quiet. The pool was well maintained, parking was plentiful and free, and there’s a rail trail right beside it for exercise.

The inn is cute, though dated, and could use some TLC. We were there October 5 and 6. The room listing said there was A/C, but when I checked, there was only a fan. The front desk said they had switched the A/C off the week before, even though it was still in the mid-twenties outside. The windows only opened about four inches, and with the curtains closed the room got up to 28 degrees. It was definitely uncomfortable. I waited a week and a half to post this because at checkout I was told I’d get a 15% discount, but it never came through. Everywhere else we stayed in the area had heat/A/C units that guests could control.

A leak from the ceiling on the second floor meant service men kept coming into our room to get to a ceiling hatch. The room was sweltering at 28 C with no A/C. We were told to leave the windows open, but only one had a screen. What was supposed to be a peaceful weekend turned into a nightmare.
