Burntwood Hotel

I expected a lot worse after reading the other reviews, so I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, I felt safe in the hotel, and I got a decent night's sleep. There was plenty of hallway noise, and I had to keep the curtains shut the whole time. Still, for a simple, safe, clean night, it's a decent option.

The pool was enjoyable, with a nice hot tub and a slide the kids had fun on, but there was no shallow end and the children's pool was broken. They only had one life jacket for the kids. The rooms had high-speed internet and a bar fridge, plus a small TV that worked and a nice shower head. The hallway smelled like stale beer and cigarettes, the rugs hadn't been vacuumed, and one had a big fold in the middle. The decor looked straight out of the 70s. A lamp was missing a bulb; I called the desk, but nobody came. The front desk woman was polite, then things went downhill. I'd stay here for the pool since there aren't other hotels in Thompson with one, but that's about it.

I couldn't wait to get out of there. The room was badly run down, with stains all over, and there were drunk people blocking the entrance. Outside, 10 year old kids were smoking weed. Repairs looked half done throughout, and I walked into the lounge then straight back out. The food was awful. I tried two bites, sent it back, and the owner/manager still said I had to pay. I told her she should learn to run a restaurant because I wasn't paying for food I didn't eat. Service was nonexistent, and the restaurant looked unclean. Bad food and bad service are no way to get repeat business. Have a little pride.

The room was okay and clean, though it could use a proper cleaning to get the spit and blood off the walls. Mine was the farthest from the entrance, which was a pain since I only had one bag. There was a lot of riff raff around, but I felt my vehicle was safe parked by the front door. It wasn't as bad as the zero I expected.
