We borrowed kayaks on our second visit and had a great time paddling, and there’s plenty nearby for anyone who likes the outdoors. This was our third stay at Bowering, and once again the staff were great and helped with anything we needed. It’s a house with several room options for different group sizes, so it feels homey. If you want to be loud and party, look elsewhere: Richard takes the other guests’ ability to enjoy their stay seriously. We’ll definitely be back.

We came back with a large group of friends and had just as good a stay as when we first visited on our own. We had no problems, unlike some recent reviews that seem to be from kids wanting to party and don’t include photos of the terrible conditions they describe. The guests were friendly and shared a fire with us, the location was amazing, the accommodation was clean and comfortable, and Richard was very accommodating. This isn’t a place for partying until 2 a.m.; go to the village for that. But if you want to relax, explore the region, and choose from a good range of rooms and suites with what you need for a comfortable stay, you’ll love the lodge.

We first found Bowering Lodge 14 years ago and have returned every year since. Being here feels like coming home. Richard is incredibly welcoming, a wonderful host, and full of stories that amaze you. The lodge feels magical inside and out, with things to enjoy in every season. We’ve loved gathering by the fireplace, snowshoeing through the surrounding forest among trees Richard planted himself, and sitting around the campfire under the stars with the crickets. Mornings bring a choir of songbirds. There’s a spacious patio with cushioned armchairs for sunbathing, a pond with goldfish beside a grassy field that brings back memories of summers on our grandparents’ farms as children, plus a swing and hammock in a pagoda. We’re already looking forward to coming again. We hope to take stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking lessons from Richard, who also teaches a range of outdoor activities. A short drive away, there’s hiking to scenic lookouts and waterfalls, paddling, swimming, skiing, and lots more.

Richard’s warmth and hospitality made the stay top-notch, and he was a great guide to the area. The cottage had the rustic countryside feel you’d want for a break from the city, while still having the comforts and amenities of home, all well looked after.

I’ve stayed at this lodge twice, and it has everything I need. It feels like a home away from home and is a much nicer experience than a hotel in the Blue Mountains. The owner is kind and friendly, and the room is just right. I especially enjoy the patio for breakfast, reading, journaling, or playing board games. 😊
