The Beaver Motel

The price was fantastic, the room was very clean, and there was plenty of hot water for a shower. My son, daughter, and I stayed last night in two rooms and were very happy with them. The woman who greeted us was friendly and seemed grateful for our business. I’d definitely stay again and recommend it.

I’m ashamed of the Beaver Motel and would never recommend it. My husband is a trucker, and he and three coworkers had paid for a room with two beds. They wanted to shower without bothering anyone else, left the room tidy, and caused no disturbance, yet the front desk called the police. These are clean, respectful, hardworking men who deliver goods people depend on and sometimes can only shower every few days when they find a place. They had paid to use the room and shower that night. Calling the police over that, when there was no emergency, was ridiculous and disgraceful.

Sheila, the proprietress, is warm, friendly, and generous, and more than anything else she’s what brings us back. The Beaver is our regular stop in the area: quiet, comfortable, and clean, and I had the best sleep. It’s an older place with worn furniture and rooms that can smell a bit musty, but it does the job without costing a fortune. There’s no A.C., though they gave us a powerful, quiet fan that kept us cool even in hot, muggy weather.

We left without staying, and the woman at the motel wouldn’t refund us or seem concerned about the room. We should have inspected it before paying. We’d gone to Collingwood for the day, decided around 4 p.m. to stay overnight, and booked the only available place, Beaver Motel. The woman was nice at check-in and gave us the keys, but the room smelled strongly of mold as soon as we opened the door. The furniture was very old and falling apart. The bathroom was filthy: the toilet seat looked uncleaned, there was spit in the sink, and the mat by the tub looked as if it had been outside. The bed cover and blanket seemed unwashed, the pillows were very flat, and there were spider webs everywhere. Who knows what else might crawl in there. There was no A/C. We went out for dinner, then decided the place didn’t feel safe and left. The woman snoops in rooms when you’re away. With Covid going on, I think the place should be fined and closed. Disgusting, disappointing, and unsafe!
