Prince Arthur Waterfont hotel is my usual place to stay when I travel to Thunder Bay. A planned one-night visit turned into a week because my partner had a medical emergency. The staff were helpful and quick to answer my questions, and I was glad the hotel welcomed pets so I could bring my dogs. We had a beautiful view over the water, and the pedestrian bridge from the hotel to the park was lovely. The onsite laundry, pool, and hot tub were handy during the unexpected longer stay. The restaurant and bar had a great choice of food and drinks, and their staff were friendly and helpful. There are other restaurants within walking distance too. Thanks to the staff and management at the Prince Arthur hotel for giving us such a good place to stay while we were in Canada.

The downtown location is great, the lake view is lovely, and the free breakfast was one of the best I’ve had. I’m not sure why this hotel gets low ratings, I thought it was wonderful. My room was spacious and clean, and the bed was really comfortable. I like the character of an older hotel like this more than a chain. The front desk staff were charming and very nice. I highly recommend it.

The continental breakfast was really good and included with the room, and I had a good stay overall. I’d visit again. The central downtown location felt a little unsafe because of homeless people, but nothing happened. You see homeless people who use drugs in downtown areas of major cities these days, so it wasn’t new to me. One caution if you have allergies: the sheets and musty smell seemed to make my cold symptoms worse.

We’d stayed here before during CLE weekend, and that visit was great. The front desk clerk and restaurant staff were both amazing. This time, we checked in at 4 pm on October 18 and checked out October 19, and the front desk clerk didn’t greet my children or me politely. All evening it was just “here you go,” without the friendliness and courtesy First Nations people need to feel welcome here. We paid for this stay ourselves, like any other hard-working non-Indigenous people. I saw her speak more politely to non-Indigenous guests than she did to my family. The front desk woman, a dyed redhead who is losing her hair, should learn to show First Nations people common courtesy and treat every customer with the same respect. The plumbing at the Prince Arthur hasn’t always been great, but that doesn’t stop us staying there. At 11 pm on October 18, we asked for a toilet plunger, and security brought one over wearing latex gloves but didn’t provide us with any gloves. The security guard was a small East Indian woman who was near the front clerk during our stay. Maybe they could both learn from Indigenous training. Miigwetch for reading my feedback.

There’s a pool and hot tub, plus coin-operated washer and dryer. Security staff and cameras cover the parking lot and inside the building, which helped us feel safe. My daughter and I got a good night’s rest before continuing our trip, and I’d stay here again. The hotel is old but well maintained, with some cosmetic wear that didn’t affect our stay. It was clean and mostly quiet, though you can hear traffic. The rooms are large and could use a small table or somewhere to put suitcases. It’s fairly priced for a decent stay. Other hotels can raise rates ridiculously and take advantage of travelers who have few options. There’s a boardwalk across the parking lot where you can look out at the beautiful harbour.
