Thunder Bay Inn

We stayed for four days after arriving on July 26th, and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were friendly and the service was great. It was quiet and cozy, and so clean that my little one could go anywhere in the room without getting filthy. The Inn is tucked away but still close to everything. I’d absolutely recommend it.

We called at 12:30am to book, reached Thunder Bay around 3am, and got a great night’s sleep. The hotel was peaceful and quiet. Our room was clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathtub and bathroom had been updated. Highly recommend it if you need somewhere good to rest overnight.

The room was large, mostly clean, and quiet, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. A few things in the bathroom needed maintenance, including the shower’s atrocious water pressure. There was also what looked like a blood stain on the bed cover. Those things kept this from being a four-star stay.

We left without speaking to the manager. The front desk employee was busy serving the free continental breakfast and saw me waiting, but ignored me. After 11 minutes, I put our key cards on the counter and went. My husband called later while I was driving to Manitoba, but got voicemail because the manager was said to be out. When he called again several hours later, he was told the manager was not in at all and left another message. By July 3, 2016 at 9:30am, there had still been no call back. This all started after our June 30 drive from Ottawa. We reached Thunder Bay at 11:00 pm on July 1st, and the woman at the front desk was very nice and helpful. My daughters and I were relieved to have a comfortable bed after the long drive. In the morning, my youngest found a large bug in her bed. I squished it with a tissue and it was full of blood. Within seconds we found another, and my daughter had bites. We checked online, and it confirmed my fear that our room had bed bugs. I called the desk and kept the second bug under a cup. The employee came up with the garbage bags I’d requested so we could wrap our luggage and avoid taking bugs to my van. I handed her the bug, and she apologized and said she’d show the manager. Nobody mentioned a refund, even though the room cost $145.77 after taxes. We packed quickly and checked out. I’m sorry to the ten or so people in the lobby that morning who I didn’t warn about the bugs. I had expected the owners and staff to be upfront and honest with us, but I was wrong. I’ve spent my time doing laundry and trying to work out how to clean the van.
