Ramada by Wyndham Thunder Bay Airlane Hotel

The breakfast was one of the best I’ve had at a YQT hotel in a while, and I’ve tried a lot of the nearby competition. Service was fantastic too. I’ll definitely stay here again when work brings me to Thunder Bay. It is an older hotel, but I don’t see that as a problem, plenty of people like Victorian-style homes. Some rooms could use paint and updating, with a 60s or 70s feel, but the place was clean. The bed was super comfortable, the shower had lots of water pressure, the greeting room was large, and there was a decent pool. Too many people have given it a bad review, in my opinion.

The supposed free breakfast was cold and seemed reheated from the day before. They also sell sandwiches in a little shop, and I nearly puked when I saw a nearly full mayonnaise container left open for days in a row. The hygiene and food safety conditions alarmed me, so I’ve already reported the hotel to the local public health unit. The rooms were filthy and clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time. Our first beds looked like a murder scene, so we changed rooms, but the second room was just as bad. The whole place felt disgusting from the moment we walked in. Service matched the surroundings. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely rude and unprofessional, and didn’t look presentable. I’ll never stay here again. Save your money and your health.

The lobby gave the impression that the hotel was clean, but the room wasn’t. There was just a sheet over the mattress, no mattress cover. I checked in, then left two hours later because I couldn’t stay. Looking under and behind the bed, and behind other things, showed how unclean it was.

Breakfast was hot and filling, and the staff were very friendly. I only stayed briefly, but enjoyed looking around the building. It feels like lots of people have passed through over the years. With its Spanish theme and grand restaurant and shops, it seems the place was meant to be a grand conference hotel when it was built, though it doesn’t seem to have worked out that way.
