Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Thunder Bay

On my next visit, I mentioned my dietary restriction at check-in and again in the morning, hoping to avoid another delay. Staff still couldn't understand the request and insisted I explain it directly to the kitchen, with no alternative offered. I ended up skipping breakfast and eating dry, dense waffles. During my previous stay, eggs, bacon, and potatoes were kept together under one lid, creating obvious cross-contamination. I don't eat pork, so I asked for eggs and potatoes prepared separately. Staff agreed, but I waited nearly an hour while being told several times it would take “2 minutes.” Basic food handling, communication, and reasonable accommodation were lacking. I travel to Thunder Bay regularly for work, but won't stay at this property again.

This hotel used to be among the few in Thunder Bay that could match the amenities and service it once offered. At first glance it looks new, modern, and clean, with decent service. But over my last several stays across many months, I've noticed less care. Rooms aren't being cleaned properly, maintenance issues go unnoticed, and guests have to ask for service that should come with what we pay. During my latest stay, there was blood on a pillow and hair in the bed, which looked like the linens had been reused. For the peak price, service and standards should be top notch, without exception.

My flight was canceled, so I couldn't make it to thunder-bay. Lawrence at the front desk didn't seem to care and wouldn't cancel my reservation unless I paid the full rate. I said I should start staying at other hotel chains, and he replied, “agreed, mabye you should.” I've been a Hilton honours member for years and have even stayed at hiltons for vacations. After that conversation, I won't be staying at hiltons anymore.

I'm a professional motorcoach driver and spend close to 200 nights a year in hotels across Canada and mostly the USA. I stay at Hampton Inn and Suites properties all over and usually find them decent value for a mid class hotel. This one on Arthur St. in Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada was wildly overpriced, especially considering I brought a group of nearly 40 people. No room discounts, and $300 a night when most other Hamptons are around $190. Two Glaceau Vitamin Waters were $6.25 each. They're overpriced at most hotels, maybe $4, but this was insulting. I slid them back to the front desk staff member. I also saw them try to charge another guest $800 for suspected smoking, and threaten my motorcoach customers with a $250 fine if they brought a hockey bag into their room. That's why we Travellers Thunder Bay in the first place. Most hotels accommodate teams and provide space for their gear without threats. Here the offered space was barely bigger than a closet. One of our customers was also asked for an $800 retainer for her room because the reservation Visa was in her husband's name, not hers. I've never heard of this much bullshit over one weekend. To everyone we brought, this Hilton was an insult. Flat out no, with 40 exclamation points, one for each person in our group who chose it for a three-night stay. Don't give them your hard-earned money. Ownership doesn't appreciate its customers. Peace ✌️
