Travelodge Thunder Bay ON

I’d read the reviews after booking and was kind of dreading what I’d find, but the hotel turned out just fine. It’s an old building that hasn’t been updated in decades, with small rooms and plenty of wear, but everything was clean. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good, especially the orange juice and coffee. Fine for a one-night stop on a road trip.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. It was way overpriced, and I’ve stayed in much nicer motels. The room was disgusting, and the bed was the worst part. It was so worn, with deep indents and lumps and bumps I could feel, that I had the worst night’s sleep ever. The shower head fell off, the phone didn’t work, and the deadbolt was misaligned with the door and unusable. The king size bed had just three small throw pillows. The single panel curtain barely covered the window, which was covered in condensation.

The room was just okay, and the bathrooms are old and dingy. Breakfast was supposed to start at 6am, but when I went down then, the door was shut and the lights were off. The front desk said nobody had shown up for their shift. Two hours later there still weren’t any eggs. He did start the coffee and put out some muffins. I was told a manager would be there at 9am so I could discuss another issue. I waited until 9:20, but he was a no-show too. No surprise given how poorly this place is run. My fault for not checking the reviews beforehand. They badly need new managers.

The noise was fine, and the location and breakfast were okay. The room was smaller than I expected, and the bathtub and shower looked poorly put together. The place was clean, though. I wasn’t impressed, but I’d stay again if I needed a room in Thunder Bay.
