Voyageur Motel

I was asked to pay before seeing the room, which I had wanted to look at first, so I agreed and then checked it out. It turned out to be very nice, clean, and orderly. Everything worked, including the AC and TV. The owners may speak only a little English, but they’re good people. No complaints, five stars.

After three weeks driving across Canada, my husband and I were glad to find a quiet place to rest in Thunder Bay on the way home. The room was clean and had new door locks, basic security, Wi-Fi, a small fridge, microwave, and TV. The shower was hot, and we had towels, soap, shampoo, and conditioner. We bring our own toiletries, but it was nice to have them there. It’s an older building, and I can see why reviews are mixed. There are potholes in the driveway, though they’ve been patched somewhat. The front desk gentleman was pleasant enough. We only needed a place to sleep, and that’s what we got. It’s a modest motel, not a luxury stay, but for a clean, safe room and a good night’s rest, I’d recommend it.

When the other hotels are full, this place seems to have a room available, which is good to know. The price is more than fair, and it’s fine for a night or two.

The owner seems to look for reasons to keep guests’ money. Several other guests I spoke with said they had trouble getting their deposits back from him. He charged me $40 for my dog, then tried to keep additional money from the deposit for the dog, even though it stayed in its kennel for nearly our whole short visit.
