Ramada by Wyndham Timmins

The place is closed. There's no more Ramada Inn, and it's being converted into senior apartments.

The bathtub in my first room backed up with gray water while I showered, with water rising well above my ankles and debris coming out of the drain. The front desk woman was helpful and moved me to the room next door, where the tub drained very slowly but at least didn't back up completely. For that disgusting first night, they offered just $25 off. I planned to stay a couple more days and asked for a discounted rate, but the manager rejected the idea. I felt one free night, or even a discount on the next few days, would have been fair. I went to the Comfort Inn instead, where I got a cleaner, nicer room with a bigger bathroom and a sliding door I could back my truck up to, for $50 less per night. They also gave me a hospital rate for my doctor's visits, which the Ramada Inn doesn't offer. The events coordinator, Gordy, was a super cool guy, and I hope this review doesn't affect him or the kind front desk woman. Management needs to improve its public relations. After reading other reviews, it seems the tub backups have happened to other guests too, so this is a known issue that still hasn't been properly addressed.

The continental breakfast was fine, and the staff were nice. During my five-night stay, housekeeping only emptied the bins and didn't change the sheets. Staff sometimes knocked even with my do-not-disturb sign up. The room phone was dead and the bathroom light worked only now and then. I mentioned the problems at the desk, but nothing was done.

The only good thing was that the bed was clean. The floor was so dirty my socks turned black after about five minutes walking around. On checkout day I didn't see a vacuum or mop, just housekeeping sweeping the carpets and using a Swiffer on the floors. The tub took an hour to fill because it had a small sink tap, which I assume discourages people from using it, and I had to clean out the jets first. The bathroom was worn and in poor shape. Not worth the room price, a solid two stars.
