University of Toronto - 45 Willcocks Residence

A bright, airy building in a prime spot, just minutes on foot from restaurants and other facilities. This is a very basic, affordable seasonal option in Toronto. The rooms are dorms during the regular semesters, and there’s no room service. The washrooms were clean, thanks to the occupants, and the cashier and check-in staff were extremely polite.

The kitchen was disappointing. There was a heater for cooking, but no basic items at all, not even a toaster or kettle. Having a few essentials would have helped with something as simple as breakfast. The building also had a laundry room, but it wasn’t working during my stay, which was inconvenient. Still, I had a great experience at 45 Wilcocks – New College Residence. The room was clean and comfortable, the common areas were well kept, and the setting felt quiet and safe. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. A few small fixes to the kitchen and laundry would make the stay much better.

Booking and paying online was easy, and check-in went smoothly. The price was exceptionally good compared with Toronto hotels, probably a third to a quarter of the cost. My room had a great view, and the free WiFi worked really well. The building is new and clean on the U of Toronto campus, and everything is an easy walk away. It was quiet, with large shared washrooms that were clean and private. There’s also a shared kitchen and laundry on the floor, plus bike share stations all around and subway and streetcars right at the doorstep.
