Motel Populaire

The room was huge, clean, and fresh smelling, with a very comfortable bed, plenty of fridge space, a nice bathroom, and lots of character. The hallways had that old smell from when smoking was still allowed, though the room itself was fine. It’s tucked away in a nice spot in town, close to groceries, gas, and fast food. A cute dog greeted me at reception, and I love a small family-run business. This exceeded my expectations for the price, and I’d recommend it to budget travelers.

We booked very late through booking.com because there were no other hotels left, so we didn’t have much choice. It cost a lot at that late notice, hardly a bargain. The staff were friendly and tried to help us in English. Still, the room wasn’t clean, and the washroom had several problems. The toilet seat was burned and hadn’t been changed, the old faucets wouldn’t shut off fully, and the sheets and duvets didn’t look clean enough for us to feel comfortable sleeping there.

It was handy being close to lots of places to eat, and there was plenty of hot water. I liked that there was no carpet. The bed was comfortable enough, and the room had a table for dining plus two extra chairs for reading or watching TV. The staff were friendly.

At first the room seemed like a good deal for what I paid. Once I settled in, though, I found the fridge didn’t work, most lights had no bulbs, and the shower was broken. The door squeaked every time I opened or closed it.
