Hotel Far Hills

The room at Cedar Lodge was comfortable, with cozy pillows, blankets, and a bed, and having a fully equipped shared kitchen plus a fridge in the room was really handy. But the walls are so thin that hallway conversations sounded like they were inside my room, and I heard footsteps all night. It may be the wood floors making people sound like they’re stomping, but it was hard to ignore. I’d bring earplugs. I got there a little before 5pm, less than an hour after check in. The front desk person was just about to leave an envelope with my name at the front, handed it to me, and welcomed me quickly. I wouldn’t count on much from the front desk. I wanted to eat at the bistro but couldn’t find it at first. A staff member eventually directed me to an empty hall, and when I called the bistro directly, nobody answered. Maybe they were short staffed, or maybe the kitchen happened to be closed that night. Either way, a note on the door would’ve helped. It’s a nice place, but I’d bring food or eat in town.

The private beach was a highlight, and swimming in the lake with nobody else around was amazing. The hotel was quiet during our visit, and we enjoyed the place completely. There are two kinds of rooms, so I’d suggest choosing one of the newer-looking ones. Chloe and Steve, the guy in the restaurant, made us feel so welcome. Their service was exceptional and they had such a great spirit for it. Breakfast was basic. The half egg was the one thing I didn’t like.

Breakfast was a letdown, though that’s often how it goes in Québec. My room was cute and I slept really well. I was in a hurry, and the lady got me checked in within 20 seconds. Thank you!

I stayed at the original Far Hills Inn many years ago, so seeing the original building across from the new modern inn in such a dilapidated state was heartbreaking. The new place doesn’t have the old charm or character, and this stay left me somewhat disappointed.
