Domaine des Montagnais

My family and I had a great time there. We loved it and would recommend it!

The local Wi-Fi was really strong, though cell service around there is poor. Our three-bedroom suite was spacious and clean, with what we needed for basic cooking. The pool was nice and just a short walk away. It’s a great base for getting to the observatory lab at Mount Lac Megantic, and we’d definitely return.

The grounds are quite beautiful, and the swimming pool is nice. The chalet itself was clean and fairly well equipped. The layout didn’t work well for the number of guests listed. There are four sofa beds, but they’re small and supposedly sleep two each, so it seems like the capacity only works if many guests are kids. The common spaces also felt cramped for such a large chalet: the kitchen and living room were very small, and there wasn’t a dining room. There were noisy gatherings at several chalets, yet we were the ones who got a complaint for talking at 11pm because it was supposedly bothering someone. We rented one of the biggest chalets this summer, but I won’t return. The steep price doesn’t feel justified.

For $153 ($129 + tax), I paid for a “Suite” that was only $10 cheaper than another suite, so I figured there couldn’t be much difference. When I checked in, though, I found out it was actually a basement with a kitchenette, underneath a much bigger house. The red area in the picture is the room I stayed in, with that tiny window. The other photos show the ground right outside the two basement windows. The website showed an impressive big house, and unfortunately I fell for it. There was hardly any daylight in the basement. On top of that, there weren’t enough lights inside. In the pictures, you can see just one bulb installed even though the lamp has three holders, and there were two lamps in the living room. I appreciate the darkness of Mont Megantic at night, but I don’t want it dark during the day too. That was the worst $10 I ever saved.
