Coast Coal Harbour Vancouver Hotel by APA

We booked a spontaneous night in Vancouver, and the mountain view was a lovely surprise. Check-in felt welcoming thanks to the friendly concierge team. We paid for early check-in so we could use the pool and hot tub, and the valet parking was worth the cost for avoiding downtown parking hassles. Our room and bed were clean and comfortable, just what we needed. I’d have liked the room cooler at night, since I sleep better that way. We had a great stay at the Coast Hotel and would recommend it for a comfortable, convenient visit.

We left feeling misled and won’t stay at a Coast Hotel again. We’d clearly said we were willing to wait for our scheduled check-in, but staff handed us keys early and presented it as a favor because the room was ready. At checkout, we found out they had added another fee on top of the early check-in charge, which they hadn’t made clear. When I brought it up, the staff were dismissive and unprofessional. They didn’t apologize for the lack of transparency and insisted we’d agreed to the charge, which we absolutely hadn’t. This has been our worst hotel experience so far. I’m still shocked they think this is an acceptable way to treat guests, especially at a chain like Coast. I hope other people have a less shady experience.

The ‘guest of the day’ surprise on my second stay was a fun, whimsical touch. I got a goodie bag and a voucher toward a meal. I booked directly and joined the rewards program, and was upgraded to rooms with beautiful views, so I recommend doing that. The hotel was clean both times, with pleasant views, a good location, and even a Toto toilet. I’ve stayed twice in one week and will book again.

We couldn’t open the curtains because an office building is right beside ours, and although we booked for three, the room only had amenities for two. Even so, the room was great, clean and comfortable. We appreciated the slippers, nice washlet, good hair dryer, and fridge. After a long walk in the cold, the bathtub and its nice shower curtain made a bath especially welcome. The reception staff were reasonably kind and helpful. We’d like to stay again when we’re in Vancouver.
