Novotel Toronto Vaughan Centre

My brother put together a family dinner for 30 adults and children, with three rooms for relatives coming from out of town. My wife arranged everything with Milena Strangio, the Director of Sales, and she was a pleasure to deal with. Milena made sure the event went smoothly. Edison looked after us so well, and everyone loved the excellent meal the chef prepared. The whole team went beyond what we expected. We can't wait to return!

The hotel is clean, comfortable, and beautifully kept, right beside Vaughan Mills. My one-star deduction is for breakfast: it appears among the amenities, but it isn't included with every room. Paying $25 plus tax and gratuity feels ridiculous when I just want a quick bite before work and breakfast is the only option. I'm sure the food is good, but that price cost them a star.

After a 20-hour flight, I spent one night here and slept really well. The bed was comfortable, the fittings looked new, and the restaurant was pleasant and reasonably priced. It's close to the freeway, around 15-20 minutes from the airport, and the staff were friendly. The only small annoyance was figuring out the switches. One was black and blended into a larger panel of plugs, so I spent about 20 minutes looking for it. The bathroom switches are behind the door inside the bathroom. I enjoyed the stay and would come back.

The breakfast restaurant was the biggest disappointment. At $25 a person, the food and service both need work. The bacon was dark, dry, and overcooked, and the scrambled eggs and omelettes seemed to be made from reconstituted egg powder. There was no muesli or other healthy cereal, and no margarine or dairy-free spread. The staff were slow to clear and reset tables, even on a quiet morning with three of them working. The breakfast poster showed poached and fried eggs, but neither was available. Housekeeping was also a letdown. Staff didn't greet guests, and left their personal things out in the corridor. The hotel itself is charming and only a five-minute drive from Vaughan Mills, the largest indoor shopping centre in Canada. My room had lovely decor and was comfortable.
