The location is fantastic, with easy walks in every direction. It's about three minutes to the Inner Harbour and Government St., and seven minutes to Chinatown and Johnson St. Bridge. Budget car rental is only a block and a half away if you need a vehicle. I hadn't expected much from the property, but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly, professional and accommodating. When I asked for an upper-floor room at check-in, the gentleman offered me a top-floor corner room. It was immaculate, bright and seemed newly renovated, with a comfortable bed, clean linens, a good-sized mini fridge and a large, bright bathroom with a walk-in shower. The one downside was street noise from the two bars connected to the hotel. After 2am on Saturday, people were talking loudly and yelling. Bring earplugs if your room faces Douglas Street. Even so, I'd definitely stay at The Strathcona Hotel again on a future Victoria visit.

The service at Strathcona Hotel felt more like a four-star hotel than a three-star one. I appreciated the daily housekeeping, and when I asked for bottles of water, someone at reception kindly brought them up to my room. A four-star hotel I used in Toronto for work had told me to come downstairs and collect mine myself, so the difference stood out. The room was quite tight but clean, and the hotel is decent, convenient and close to almost everything. I didn't use public transport during my vacation, since I could walk to the attractions. The service was great.

The room was clean and spacious, and the hotel does a lovely job of pairing historic architecture with modern rooms. Anja was a huge help during check-in, making sure my partner and I had everything we needed and sharing good suggestions for places to see and eat in Victoria. The connected restaurant and pub, the Sticky Wicket, is worth checking out too. It had a cozy atmosphere and great food. A wonderful place to stay when visiting Victoria, highly recommended.

We had a smooth, stress-free stay in a really convenient downtown spot, close to everything. Ope at reception was especially kind and helpful, and handled everything so professionally. He made us feel very welcome. I'd definitely stay here again.

Anja at the front desk made check-in and check-out seamless. She was welcoming, friendly and so helpful throughout our stay. The hotel has a warm atmosphere, and although there's nightlife and a mix of bars nearby, it was still quiet and comfortable when we wanted to wind down. Our room was clean and had what we needed for a short visit. The Strathcona Hotel is right in the heart of downtown Victoria, within walking distance of restaurants, bars and the waterfront. Great value, and we'd happily stay again.
