PETER C.
I’m still fighting to get my deposit back weeks after the rental ended. The communication was extremely poor, and the house was disgusting, with black mould and piles of rubbish. It didn’t seem fit to live in. Everything was broken. I fixed the taps and sinks myself, along with many other little things. I spent days cleaning scum and glitter off the floors with a cordless mop I bought, filled multiple rubbish bins, and even took trash to work because there was so much. Some sliding doors wouldn’t open until I lubricated them. There were thousands of ants in the bathroom, probably because food and rubbish had been left there. I vacuumed them up, blocked the entry points, and put down ant bait. The fridge had only about two shelves, and there was nothing in the freezer or door. I paid out of pocket for fridge shelves, cleaning materials and supplies, a toilet roll holder, towel rack, taps, and fittings, plus more. But worse than all that, the cameras all over the place being watched all the time was disturbing. I was there for months and kept having to fight to keep the house warm or cool. The heating was turned off while it was snowing, and I’d wake in the middle of the night freezing. I’d paid very good money for what was meant to be a luxury air bnb. This is exactly like every horror story about what air bnb has become that you see all over social media.
