Auberge de l'Hospice

The woman who checked me in lent me a plug adapter when I realized I'd brought the wrong one while hiking in from Italy. That was so kind of her. I had a private room, and it was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, the wifi was fast, and the employees were friendly. I was here on the Tour des Combins and was really impressed. I'd definitely stay again and highly recommend it. And be sure to say hi to the dogs. :)

The night time quiet is the main reason to stay here, and honestly that's enough. The views, peace, and serenity are amazing. The accommodation is basic, though for a place 12000 ft up in the mountains it's a great facility. It was very clean and comfortable, and the staff were lovely and friendly. Food options at night are limited, though given the altitude that's not really a drawback. The local Italian restaurant, just 300 metres away on the Italian side of the border, is quite good. This is a MUST STAY location at least once in your life!

Breakfast was below average, with no cooked options like bacon or scrambled eggs. There was enough meat and cheese, though, to fuel up before a long hike. The place is a bit expensive, but I guess the location makes the price fair. It's a wonderful hiking area, so staying 1-2 nights makes more sense than trying to visit on a day trip.

We booked dinner ahead because we're vegetarian and weren't sure what would be available at the last minute. It was meant to be a three-course meal, but the food was really bad. The non-vegetarians got pasta carbonara with vegetables on the side, while our pasta came with only cheese. We also had to pay extra for dessert even though the meal was supposed to be three courses. Breakfast was below average, with no cooked dishes and very little choice. A friend had recommended the area, and we booked here because we honestly thought it was the only place to stay. There's also an Italian hotel and restaurant just two minutes away at the border, where the food is much better. The price here is a little high, though I guess it's fair for the location. I'd highly recommend eating at the Italian restaurant. Its pizza and hot chocolate were amazing.
