Hotel d'Angleterre Geneva

My wife and I spent New Year's 2026 here and highly recommend it. We had a beautiful view of Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, and Sebastian at the front desk was great. The hospitality, ambience, high tea, turn down service, and The Leopard Bar all made it feel like a Geneva gem.

The staff were professional and gave exceptional service, easily a five-star experience from them. The afternoon tea, though, was extremely disappointing and nowhere near what I expect from a five-star hotel. The sandwiches were dry, and the cheese and tomato ones had nothing special about them, if anything, they were worse than homemade. The mushroom sandwich was inedible, as was the dry, tasteless salmon one. The pastries were below average, and scones should be light and fluffy. I'm from South Africa, once a British colony, so we're used to traditional high tea. This didn't come close to the standards abroad. I'd also noted on my reservation that it was my daughter's bridal shower, and would have appreciated even a congratulations note on the table. Nobody mentioned it at all. Attention to detail makes a difference, especially for a special occasion.

The sandwiches were a letdown, especially the mushroom one, which had practically no filling and very dry bread. I wanted to mention it, but the waitress took ages to come back and I only caught her at the end. Getting the bill paid also took a long time, and I had to ask for more water instead of being offered more tea like last year. We make a Christmas afternoon tea at Hotel d'Angleterre a yearly tradition, but this was the last time. They couldn't find my reservation, and a pompous man asked to see proof three times. Even after we were seated, he questioned whether I had the right hotel. No apology. We wanted the full tea for two, not the smaller option at a slightly lower price. The waitress was slow and didn't explain the choices, so we thought each of us was getting the full tea. There were five of us, and four ended up sharing the smaller serving while the fifth got the same amount of pastries alone. That left seven pastries for two of us. They were half the size of last year's, based on my photos, and so tiny they collapsed into a sticky mess when we tried to cut them. Nothing special either. A very disappointing visit. We won't return. Don't waste your money.

We booked through American Express, so the extra amenities were a nice bonus, and the hotel felt like very good value for Geneva. The concierge helped with planning before the trip, and the Leopard Room staff and everyone else we met gave phenomenal service. We stayed three nights, got upgraded to a lovely room, and couldn't have asked for a better luxury base in Geneva. Fantastic experience all around. 👏
