Eden Hotel und Restaurant

Construction right outside was loud and constant, making our stay quite disappointing. The hotel offered no discount or other compensation. The room had no air conditioning, and with all that outside noise, opening the window wasn't an option. We also felt misled because the extra charge for parking hadn't been clearly disclosed.

The cost of the hotel felt far too high given the service and noise. Construction outside woke us well before 7 a.m., while trains and traffic made it impossible to sleep with the window open at night. We were also surprised by an undisclosed 4 CHF charge for tap water at the restaurant, and parking cost 7 CHF. There was no gesture to make up for any of this. We'll never return, and we're officially crossing Switzerland off our holiday destination list.

We were left stranded late at night because our flight arrived late and the hotel hadn't made keys available for a late check-in, even though it could have. The website says to call if arriving after 10 p.m., but nowhere does it say you have to call ahead to confirm you're coming. We had to pay for a night we didn't get. We had already paid 426 USD, about 390 CHF, to the hotel. After allowing 26 CHF for parking and tourist fees, the total should have been 360 CHF, so we had already paid 390 CHF, yet they still charged us another 56 CHF. We also paid for three breakfasts as part of the three-day room booking, but between the two of us ate only two breakfasts there. Despite having paid for one more than we ate, we were charged for five breakfasts.

We were visiting Switzerland for the first time as a family. We usually camp while traveling around Europe, but chose Eden for one hotel night. The two rooms we had, on the 6th and 9th floors, were spacious, seemed clean and neat, and had beautiful views. There were shops, restaurants, bakeries, and more close by, parking beside the hotel, and the staff were friendly. The breakfast disappointed me compared with what other reviews had said. Maybe it's standard in other countries, or maybe I'm used to something different, but there wasn't much choice and the bacon was really tough. Still, everyone found something to eat. I also missed having a minibar or ice machine, especially in a country where summer can get very hot. Without either, drinks would be lukewarm, so I lowered my rating a bit for that and the breakfast.
