Colin S. made our stay at Hotel Astoria in Lucerne especially memorable. He welcomed us warmly, shared useful local recommendations, taught us a few Swiss German phrases, and clearly explained the hotel’s amenities and services. The location was perfect for exploring the city, and breakfast was basic but decent. But the carpet had a huge stain as soon as we entered the room, and we found more later. Our towels and linen also weren’t changed when they were supposed to be, even after we asked. I came to town on a business trip with my husband, and I’d rate the service very poorly. If you have a mites allergy like I do, I’d pay more for a better hotel.

The breakfast was excellent, with a great spread, and I’d recommend it for that. But the room felt claustrophobic, with little air circulation, and we could hear people talking in the rooms next to us. My wife had booked a king room for four nights, but accidentally selected one adult. I initially accepted that adding a person might cost more. The hotel wanted 50 francs per day, though, while changing the booking online from one person to two showed just 5 francs per day for any dates. I asked them to lower the charge from 200 francs to 20. Manager Adam gave reasons I found silly, but there wasn’t much I could do once they’d decided to charge it. Edit 1/15/2026: In response to Management, I’m not disputing an extra charge for a second person. The issue is the amount at check-in. Anyone can verify the 5 francs per day by changing the number of guests from one to two on the website. Charging 50 francs per day, ten times that amount, wasn’t right.

We stayed two nights with a tour group on 18 & 19 Dec 2025. The location felt safe and made it easy to go out at night to the nearby Xmas markets and Lucerne lakeside city hub precinct. There are restaurants in the hotel complex and just outside. Our second-floor room was quiet and comfortable, with enough amenities, and the bath and toilet were a good size for two. I’m very grateful to room service and the hotel staff for finding an item of great value that I accidentally left behind and posting it to me intact. Thank you so much. 🙏🏻 The buffet breakfast was very average, with limited variety. The elevators were slow and limited, and breakfast was in another building within the complex. The entry was inconvenient too, with a long flight of stairs down and escalators to go up next door. Those were small annoyances compared with the comfort and convenience. 🌼🌼
