We’d just come from Italy, and the pasta and Caesar salad here were just as good as what we’d had there. The staff were lovely, and the outdoor seating looks out over the mountains. We only came for a meal, but I’m so glad we did. The 24 bus makes it an easy trip.

We tried both the hotel and the restaurant. The restaurant food was delicious: we ordered a salad, the stracciatella, and the Dante pizza. Service was quite slow, though. I know that can be the European pace, but even after three weeks in Europe, I found it particularly slow. The hotel is in Meggen, right across from a bus stop, about a 20-minute ride from the train station and away from Lucerne’s busy center. Check-in was easy. The rooms are simple and no-frills, clean enough, with very comfortable beds. Ours was a little noisy, and we wondered if it shared a wall with the restaurant kitchen, but it was quiet at night. There were two big downsides. We visited in summer and the rooms were hot and stuffy with no AC. Opening the windows or door wasn’t an option because the mosquitoes were horrendous. Also, a clock tower meters away chimes every 15 minutes from 7 AM to 10 PM, so sleeping in isn’t really possible.

I stopped by last month for a last-minute late-night pizza and had a lovely chat with Dorina and Kitty. They were laughing so hard while trying to pronounce my name. Hope I get to see you both again!

We came for the first time yesterday and will definitely return. The cordon bleu was the best we’ve ever had, and the service was quick, welcoming, and friendly. Highly recommend!
