Hotel Monopol

We got a warm welcome when we arrived, even though we were early and our room wasn't ready yet. The staff stored our bags, and it was a nice surprise to find them waiting in our room when we came back. The room was spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. It's in a fantastic spot for train travelers, and there are plenty of nearby places to eat. The staff were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and I'd recommend the hotel and stay again without hesitation.

The only real positives were being beside the train station and river. We were in room 602, and the window was completely covered in plastic with scaffolding outside, so there was no view at all. The hotel's website did mention limited views and scaffolding, but this room had nothing to look out at. It was hot, with no air conditioning or airflow. Staff said the AC wouldn't be turned on until May. The room was closet-sized, with old red carpet and oversized furniture arranged so badly there was no space to walk. The desk was being used for the coffee station, and the TV took up most of the counter. Our friends had three other rooms, all much larger, and two partly renovated. We asked to switch but were told the hotel was fully booked. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

There are a Starbucks, McDonald's, and Coop supermarket downstairs, and the ferry is nearby. The train station is only about a three-minute walk away, so getting around is easy. Our room was huge and had a nice view. The building is a little old, but I'd choose to stay here again next time.

We were welcomed by friendly front desk staff, and breakfast was nice. The rooms and bathrooms were big. Monopol Lucerne is only steps from the train station and Old Town, which was perfect for us. We'd definitely return.
