BasicRooms Hotel

The room was nicer than the rest of this very basic hotel, and breakfast was worth having. I had no trouble using the shared bathrooms. It's in a quieter part of Interlaken, about equally far from the west and east train stations.

For a budget stay, this is a genuinely brilliant deal and much better value than a youth hostel. Alpina Hotel and BasicRooms Hotel are sections of the same building, but Alpina rooms have their own bathrooms. In BasicRooms, guests from six other rooms share two individual showers and two individual toilets. I never had to wait, and that arrangement didn't bother me. The room decor is dated, but the room is very well equipped, with a wardrobe with hanging space and drawers, a side table, chair, memory foam mattress, and sink. It came with soap, a floor mat for the sink, shower and hand towels, and a flannel. The staff were lovely and glad to help. Since I'm gluten free, they got special cereal and bread just for me, and made a gluten free packed lunch for 15CHF. Guests get a Visitor's Card for free local bus, boat, and train travel. The hotel is outside the center, near some cool local bars and restaurants, but the free bus takes about 10 minutes to the station. Amazing value for the money!

Basic rooms hotel is inside Hotel Alpina, or perhaps it's the same hotel, so check-in is at Hotel Alpina. The receptionist was super nice and check-in went smoothly. The shared bathrooms and toilets were fine, and I never had to wait. It's an old building, but the finds are nice. Good for a budget traveller.

It does the job at a very affordable price, though the rooms could use a bit more care. The buffet breakfast had a limited selection, but was good enough for an ordinary breakfast. The bathrooms were clean, and I never had to wait for other guests.
