The local dishes and wine at Bodenhaus were a real highlight, and big compliments to the Chef. The rooms are lovely, with stylish decor, and the staff were attentive and kind. It felt like a genuinely Swiss stay in a beautiful hotel. I’d love to come back.

Domenico and the whole team were so kind and attentive, and really went out of their way for us. That’s what stood out most, along with the hotel’s great facilities, setting, and history. Thank you, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

At Bodenhaus Splugen, two senior staff members made me feel discriminated against during dinner. They spoke with the rest of my group but didn’t look at me or respond when I asked about the restaurant menu. A young staff member, though, was efficient, kind, and provided great service. Without that, I would have asked to speak to a manager about how the others treated me. The food also wasn’t very good and didn’t feel worth the price. What a shame.

The hotel was being renovated, and the room we got wasn’t the one we’d booked. We complained and were moved, but the replacement was small and dated too. Breakfast was another disappointment: when I asked for fried eggs, I was told they only had scrambled or boiled. I checked with the receptionist, who said fried eggs were possible. They need to improve things from the welcome through the rooms and breakfast.

I checked in late at night and only noticed brown marks on the toilet seat the next morning. I told reception, and two women offered to move me, but with all my bags unpacked and no idea what the next room might be like, I asked them to clean it instead. No one apologized. When I got back that evening after driving through the Alps all day, the marks were still there. The man who had checked me in was at the desk. I said I’d asked for the toilet to be cleaned, and he asked if I wanted to change rooms. When I repeated that cleaning was all I wanted, he got irritated, raised his voice, and walked away while I was talking. I showed him the seat, and he kept asking why I hadn’t reported it right at check-in. I wasn’t wearing my glasses, it was late, and I had reported it first thing in the morning. The room had been made up, so I couldn’t understand why it was still dirty. He had no answer beyond questioning me about not reporting it sooner. I felt he was blaming me. He eventually cleaned it, but was very rude about it. At one point he said in German, “I could say something right now but I won’t since you’ll complain about me as well.” That led to an argument, and he stormed off. Then a woman who wasn’t even staying there started yelling at me in the lobby and dropped her jacket on the floor as if she might physically attack me. She told me to leave, until she realized I had a room key. It was all bizarre and left me at a loss for words. I was the only non-white person in the hotel, among both guests and workers. I don’t think that necessarily explains what happened, but I feel I should mention it. The man at reception shouldn’t be working in hospitality. The dirty toilet, both at check-in and after the room was made up, was the hotel’s failure. And I don’t understand why someone who wasn’t a guest was allowed to yell at me in the lobby. I think she was a friend of the staff. Her real name was Mara, I believe. I said I’d post this review on a few sites. Unbelievable experience. Never again. In response to the owner: Everything I wrote is true and factual. The owner replied here on Google Maps instead of emailing me directly, even though they have my contact information, which makes me feel they don’t care. The staff denying these facts doesn’t surprise me given what happened. And it’s not horrible to walk around without glasses, but stains on a toilet can be hard to see. That isn’t the point. The issue is how I was treated, and that has continued in the response. I’m fairly certain there are cameras in the lobby and the footage could have been checked. If there aren’t cameras, the hotel should get some. I’m also saddened that staff are apparently lying to the owner. I stand by my truthful comments and review.
