Hotel Vadian Garni

We had a very nice stay in a hotel near the city center. The rooms were clean, with air conditioning and a spacious bathroom. Breakfast was a simple cold buffet, with fresh bread brought straight from the bakery.

The location is handy, close to the Abbey Library and an 8-10 minute walk from the train station. Reception was friendly, and luggage storage helped when arriving early or leaving after checkout. The room was fine, with a renovated bathroom that had plenty of space and storage for our things. The hallways felt long and odd, and not having an iron or refrigerator was annoying. The room was 28.5° C/83° F when we arrived because the air conditioning hadn’t been turned on. It took hours to bring it down even to 24° C/75° F, and then it switched off in the middle of the night because of a timer we hadn’t set. I thought about taking off a star over that. I understand trying to save money and energy, but with high occupancy, leaving the air conditioning on might be more efficient than having every guest run it at full power and wait for hours.

The staff are friendly, and the nearby parking is convenient. Rooms are on the small side but clean and well equipped. In the old town, the location makes it easy to walk everywhere and enjoy the atmosphere of this charming medieval town. Highly recommended.

We stayed in an apartment rather than the hotel itself. It was comfortable, nothing fancy, with enough room to spread out in the evenings and a kitchen and bathroom that worked well for us. The elevator has a delightful old-school feel, no spoilers. Breakfast was back at the hotel, about a block away, with good coffee and lots of fruit, cheese, and meats. Really, no complaints.
