Hotel Walensee Trattoria

Our server Ava was lovely and handled our changing orders with real flexibility. The staff were so friendly, and the pizza was really good too.

The food was awful, and if my colleagues hadn't been starving, I would have suggested we leave. I barely touched anything besides the wine and water. The 'Pizza' Bufalla looked like pita bread topped with sliced tomato and scattered bits of Bufalla. The mixed salad was drowned in Italian dressing, with about a third of the bowl full of it. Worst of all was the 1/2 portion 'Carbonara': the bacon slices were paper thin, and both times it came back from the kitchen there was egg soup at the bottom. They couldn't get the pan heat right. Even so, the waiter argued when we saw the Carbonara still on the bill, saying it was good, other clients liked it, and it was our problem that we hadn't eaten it. I asked for his supervisor. He returned with a corrected bill that removed the dish, without even looking at us, but the supervisor never showed up, despite our waiting a full 15 minutes. The waiter was rude from the start, thrusting the menu over and hovering uncomfortably while we chose. When we asked about the type of service, he didn't know the industry's technical terms. He looked completely unbothered, with his pants hanging down and a button-up shirt that looked like it had been run over by a bus. Prices were excessive by Swiss standards, with a pizza at 26.5chf. I've never been treated so badly in a restaurant.

The tomato soup was outstanding, and the pizza was great too. Christof gave us wonderful service.

The scenery is the real draw at Trattoria Walensee, with those stunning lake views. The food was only okay, and the staff could have been friendlier, but the setting makes it worth a visit.
