Hotel Bahnhof

Everything was clean, including the shared washrooms and kitchen, which were kept in great shape. The only drawback was having to climb to the third floor with luggage, since there’s no lift. The location is hard to beat, right across from the railway station and beside both a bus stop and the Gornergrat railway station. It’s literally ski in and out. A gem in Zermatt.

This was my second stay at Hotel Bahnhof, and I enjoyed it just as much. Everything was very clean and well maintained, and the staff were awesome and helpful. The communal kitchen is handy, and the location is great. You can’t get better value for money in Zermatt.

For the price, this turned out to be a great choice in Zermatt. It has a simple, cozy hostel feel and is close to everything: the train station is less than a minute away, with the main street and bus station right nearby. The Gornergrat train leaves next door too. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it.

The location is incredibly convenient. Zermatt’s main station, the free shuttle bus stop, the train to the Sunnegga ski area, Coop, and other central shops and cafes are all close by. The shared spaces have a cute, rustic feel, and the ski and locker rooms are well kept and easy to access. My room was alright for the price, though I would have liked more amenities. I did get a Matterhorn view, but my ground-floor balcony faced the restaurant patio and felt too exposed, so I never used it. I’d have preferred a room on a higher floor. The noise from the neighboring restaurant was another downside. Its staff opened and shut the large lid on a rubbish bin beside the hotel, and you could hear it throughout the day and late at night. Service was the biggest issue for me. The female receptionist in her 30s with glasses came across as condescending and smart-alecky. The housekeepers were extremely rude, and honestly, it felt quite racist. In the mornings they would click the door open and barge in without knocking. When I said I didn’t want service, they seemed irritated and shouted back, “okkkaaaay no service!” I stayed almost a week, first on a higher floor, then upgraded myself to a bigger room for four more days. I would come back for the convenience and location, but the experience would have been better if staff were trained to treat people of colour respectfully. This is technically a hostel and will likely host people from Asian countries. I’d request a room from level 1 up, and staff should be kinder to guests.
