Hotel Romantica

We stayed for five days and will come again in summer. The hotel is really warm, has a gorgeous view, and the owners are friendly and helpful. It’s in a great spot, a block from the main street and within walking distance of the train. The Gornergrat bahn is an easy walk away for getting up to the lifts.

Thor picked up our luggage at the station and took us back there at the end, making everything feel easy. Michèle was lovely on the phone when I first checked availability and found us rooms during the very busy New Year period. They were both consistently welcoming, helpful, and friendly. One of them always seemed to be around, greeting us by name and chatting at breakfast or when we got back from skiing. We had two bright, spacious, spotless rooms with a great layout and very comfortable beds and pillows. Both had balconies with lovely views over Zermatt, and one had a fantastic view from the bath, a real treat after skiing. The hotel felt thoughtfully set up for skiers. Ski storage was practical, and the benches for taking off boots were a welcome change from the usual miserable ski locker experience. There’s a cosy bar too, though we didn’t get to visit it this time. The hotel is right in the centre, in a quiet, tucked-away spot that’s well placed for walking to all the main lifts. We had a brilliant stay. We’ve been to Zermatt many times, but this is our favourite hotel and the one we plan to return to.

On our departure morning, we had to leave before breakfast began. Michele prepared breakfast the night before so we could take it along, without hesitation. It turned out to be a lifesaver when our train was canceled and we were delayed getting to the airport. Having the food with us made a stressful situation much easier. The breakfast was delicious, and the service throughout was outstanding. Thor and Michele made us feel informed and welcome from the moment we arrived, and being there felt like staying in their home. We got engaged during the trip, and they helped arrange a special, unforgettable surprise at the hotel. Their thoughtfulness felt personal, as if we were family. The hotel is adorable, with just the romantic, cozy vibe we wanted. We wholeheartedly recommend it and hope to return. It will always mean a lot to us.

Thor’s local knowledge and thoughtful tips helped us discover so much of Zermatt in just two days. He and Michelle were lovely hosts, and the hotel felt personal and full of character, like a hidden gem. It was immaculate and charming, right in the heart of Zermatt. We had a wonderful weekend and can absolutely recommend it. We’ll definitely be back.
