Hotel Welschen Zermatt

For skiing, the location is hard to beat: a set of stairs takes you to the Sunnega tram entrance. The staff were helpful at every turn, and it was clear everyone wanted us to enjoy our stay. The hotel is thoughtfully designed, from the beautiful lobby and Matterhorn-view deck to spacious rooms with modern bathrooms and plenty of charging ports. The ski lockers have warmers for gloves and boots too. Can't wait to come back!

The Matterhorn view from my room was breathtaking, and the hotel's modern design has thoughtful details throughout. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Breakfast had plenty of delicious choices, and the hotel is close to every activity. I had a wonderful, relaxing stay and would happily come back again and again.

The pool looks out at the Matterhorn, and its bubble chair and powerful jets are set up to work out tight spots in your back, quads and calves. It really feels designed for skiers. The large saunas are nice too, and the infrared chairs helped with back tightness. There are modern ski lockers with glove, helmet and boot warmers, and the rooms are spacious, modern and have amazing Matterhorn views from the balcony. Location is about as good as it gets, steps from the Sunnegga funicular and under a five-minute walk to ski shops, restaurants and bars. Everyone on staff was friendly and hospitable, very much a family-run hotel. Breakfast had loads of options, including really good eggs, local sausages, fresh bread, granola, cereals and prosecco. The bar serves good drinks and food. My wife said the Absinthe mule was the best mule she'd ever had, and the staff were knowledgeable and accommodating about a gluten allergy. Perfect for a ski vacation.

The apartment's location right by the funicular train to the top of the piste was great, and we appreciated the spacious, warm rooms and the fireplace. Our family spent 12 nights there next to the hotel. Cyril, the owner, his father and all the staff gave us such personal attention. One thing that could be better is the kitchen equipment. We like cooking and having friends over for cosy dinners, but found the cutting boards tiny, few sharp knives, not enough large salad bowls, pots or cooking utensils. Thanks for a great stay.
