Accademia Apartments

We booked the deluxe studio for two people for three months, then after a last-minute change agreed to take it just for October. We ended up leaving after two nights. When we arrived there was nobody there, and the room had been left open. The manager apologized for forgetting our keys and came later to hand them over, but it wasn’t a good start. We had specified we weren’t a couple, but the beds had been pushed together under one sheet, and the sofa bed wasn’t made up. That was disappointing, though not a huge issue by itself. When we went to prepare the sofa, there was dust and a used q-tip underneath it. The room also got very cold at night because there was no heating. What made us leave was a persistent, sickly sweet smell in the main bathroom. It started faintly, so I tried the ventilation, but that made it stronger. Eventually it was so bad I felt nauseous and had to hold my breath to go in. I can’t say what caused it, and searching online for possible sources didn’t reassure me. We emailed the manager on Sunday and hoped it would be dealt with on Monday or we could leave. By late Monday morning there was no reply, so I called. The manager said he’d send the housekeeper to check, but she said she couldn’t smell anything, so we left. The manager then said there would be no refund because the cancellation period was 21 days and the reservation was binding, and that we could choose to leave. We were offered a partial refund only if someone else took the studio for the rest of October. I emailed again to explain why that felt unfair, especially as we’re students, but never got a reply. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, or at the very least, avoid the “deluxe” studio.
