Boutiquehotel Sonne Küsnacht - Zürich

The location is the one standout here. My four-day stay was otherwise quite ordinary and sometimes unpleasant, and I came away with an unwelcome impression of the management's values and how they shape staff behavior. At check-in, a courteous young concierge handed me the room keys and two complimentary drink cards. Then a young blonde woman with long hair at the desk abruptly got up, took one card from my hand, and said that since there was only one person in the room, I was entitled to one drink. She put her colleague down and came across as petty and poor at hospitality. She also seemed to be trying to steer me and my colleagues away from nearby restaurants by strongly promoting the hotel restaurant. One of its dishes was so salty that I had to send it back.

The bed was too soft for me to sleep properly, and sounds from other people carried straight into the room. There wasn't any tea or coffee set out either, so I had to ask reception for a ‘wasserkocher’. A poor stay for a four-star hotel in Switzerland. I wouldn't recommend it.

The room was comfortable, and breakfast was top class. We were travelling as a family, though, and after arriving late, the restaurant had few child-friendly choices after 8pm. We also couldn't get the WiFi working. Service was amazing throughout. The parking attendant went out of their way to fit us in, reception were especially friendly, and the Easter Bunny left chocolate treats for our kids the next morning. A beautiful, distinctive, charming hotel with a romantic feel, as its name suggests.

We stayed in a second-floor suite for three nights at the Sonne hotel for the first part of our honeymoon and really didn't want to leave. The views and location were wonderful, and getting into Zurich by boat or train was easy. We also appreciated the private swimming and patio area. I'd highly recommend it.
