Engimatt City & Garden Hotel

I spent two nights here on a business trip. The room wasn’t large, but it was enough for a couple, and the hotel was clean. Room facilities and the breakfast selection were okay. Good location and friendly staff. I’d recommend it.

The location was convenient, near a magnificent ancient Roman and Irish spa, a range of restaurants, and both the airport and train station. What stayed with me most was how cared for I felt. As a woman traveling alone, I felt completely safe and warmly welcomed. Everyone, from reception and housekeeping to the waiters, chefs, and management, came across as professional and sincerely kind. I loved waking to the gentle toll of ancient church bells, and the rooms were exquisite, with balconies and breathtaking views. The food was extraordinary: a flavorful breakfast, and lunch and dinner with unusual ingredient combinations that delighted the senses. Laundry was handled thoughtfully and flawlessly. Dining indoors or outside was a pleasure, and the lobby art added elegance throughout. I also enjoyed the cozy smoking lounge, the fireplace meeting areas, and the library full of fascinating books. Every smile and thoughtful detail made the stay feel special. Thank you to the whole team for such a memorable few days filled with comfort and beauty.

The staff were welcoming and attentive, which made the stay comfortable and enjoyable. Breakfast was a great extra, with fresh-squeezed juices, well-cooked eggs, a good cheese selection, and tasty baked goods. The hotel sits on a quiet street, so it feels peaceful while still being close to the city’s main attractions. Tram and bus stops are just steps away, and the train station is around a 10-minute walk.

Once our room was ready, we really enjoyed the comfortable space and the breakfast. The breakfast spread had a great range of choices, including local breads. The waitresses were busy, but warmly offered to bring our first coffee or espresso. The front desk was consistently helpful with tips, and the hotel’s local offer for admission to the Lindt Chocolate Museum worked easily with a QR code. My husband was especially happy about enjoying a cigar from Engimatt's cigar bar and a happy hour drink. We’d arrived after a long flight from the US and decided to walk to the hotel. We hadn’t figured out the river or trail route, since Zurich was new to us, and the walk from the train station was a bit long. A bus or train would have been easier. The front desk kindly held our luggage and offered to contact us if the room became available before check-in, so we went for a healthy walk along the lakefront. The hotel is well placed for transit and a mall, and there’s a fun trail by the water for walking or biking downtown.
