I keep coming back to Widder Hotel, and over the years its attention to detail has stayed remarkably consistent. The service, food, and atmosphere all fit together at a very high level without feeling showy or overdone. It values substance over spectacle, and remains one of the most thoughtfully run hotels I know. The food is a big part of that. Widder Restaurant, led by Stefan Heilemann, has two Michelin stars and is outstanding. Breakfast is served in that same restaurant, and the quality carries through to the start of the day. AuGust, under Tino Staub, is more relaxed but just as worthwhile, with care evident throughout. The people are another strength. Katharina, Christian, and Marco are all remarkable concierges with Les Clefs d'Or, a rare concentration that says a lot about the hotel's professionalism, experience, and genuine hospitality. And the Widder Bar deserves its own mention: its whisky collection is extraordinary, and its award-winning bartenders make it a destination beyond the hotel itself.

The staff were warm, professional, and welcoming, and the service stayed consistently strong. Breakfast was excellent, too. Although it has a refined boutique feel, the hotel was cozy and worked well for a family stay. Our room was calm, elegant, and very comfortable. Widder Hotel is in the heart of Zurich's Old Town, one of the city's most charming areas. The building's medieval history is beautifully combined with modern luxury. A memorable, luxurious stay that still felt warm.

Of the eight places on our roam-around-Europe trip, this was the best. We loved Zurich, so perhaps we're a little biased, but we'd return in a heartbeat. The staff were warm and friendly, and our room had plenty of space, good light, and an autumn view from the window. It's a short walk from the railway station, with so much nearby within easy walking distance. The restaurant and bar were packed, but as hotel guests we were seated quickly, and the food was delicious. We also enjoyed the dining room's special set dinner one evening. As a retired chef, I especially appreciated how much the chef and waiters knew and how well they interacted with us. They really know hospitality.

We marked our anniversary at the Widder during the first weekend of the Zurich Film Festival, and the staff made it feel special. We were also lucky enough to win a competition for tickets to the premiere of “Splitsville”, which added a little extra sparkle. Christian and Hans, whose name I think I've remembered correctly, checked us in and were especially friendly and helpful. Everyone we dealt with was kind. Our room was excellent, with a great bed and bedding, plus a terrace with a table and chairs. The hotel is right in the centre of the old town, on the western side of the Limmat. We enjoyed the Widder bar, as always, though our busy weekend schedule meant we couldn't experience all the hotel has to offer. We hope to return next year or sooner and make time for the other amenities. We thoroughly recommend staying at the Widder.

The location is hard to beat, right in the centre, though that does mean car access isn't an option. The concierge team were extremely helpful, and the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant was lovely. The bar also serves good food. My only real deduction is for the room size. I understand that a hotel of this caliber in the city centre can't necessarily offer extra-large rooms, but I still wish ours had been a bit more spacious.
