Holiday Inn Express Concepcion by IHG

Reception was courteous and helpful, including with ideas for things to do around the city. I had a happy stay. Breakfast was generous, and the dining area had plenty of room and was tidy. My room and bathroom were clean, and there was a safe above the coffee station. Parking came with the room price during my stay, with some monitoring by an outside service. The pool was still closed, but staff were cleaning it for what sounded like a soon reopening. Booking at the last minute on the IHG mobile app while driving to Concepcion late at night, without a plan, was very convenient. The Concepcion HI Express has the same layout as the HI Express in Temuco, so either way, you get the same setup. It's a lot more comfortable than some of the ratty grandma hostels I've been staying in between HI Express stays in Chile. Sorry for that negative slip.

Claudia and Cecilia were wonderful hosts, always smiling and greeting us warmly. They kept us up to date on the weather, suggesting a jacket or raincoat when it was needed, and knew plenty about local places to eat, including their recommendations. I'd gladly stay again with those two working here. The morning coffee could be better, though. When the flask ran low, it got a bit grubby, and the coffee wasn't replaced once it was gone.

The rooms are quite large, and so is the bathroom. Breakfast is good, and there’s an iron and ironing board in the room, plus a nice pool and garden. The one thing that makes a big difference is missing: there’s no fridge in the rooms.
