Cabañas Te Pito Kura

These aren’t luxury cabanas, but they’re well worth the price. We were wondering how we’d get there when we landed, and the owners were waiting at the airport to greet us and take us to their place. It’s a little outside the city center, but if you do astro-photography, it’s ideal, with very little city light or light pollution. I wish we’d stayed several days longer. P.S. They have their OWN little Moai, the middle one in the picture.

Don Juan made sure we had a great stay. He’s friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and they even met us at the airport with flowers and drove us back when it was time to leave.

These cabanas feel more like staying at a friend’s place than at a luxury suite. The little kitchen is basic, and the towels aren’t fancy or replaced every day. There’s no AC, though you can ask for a fan. Nights on the island were cool, so I slept with the windows and doors open and had no issues. It’s a nice spot by the water for a couple or a solo traveler. I wouldn’t choose it for kids, since there are no kid focused amenities and they may get bored.

We spent a week there in June and had no problems. The cabins were snug and had what we needed, and breakfast on the terrace is something we’ll remember. Don Jorge and Maritza, along with their dogs, were so kind. We also loved walking to Ahu Tahai for sunset. They met us at the airport, took us back when we left, and were attentive throughout. They suggested places to eat and visit, and although it’s a little way from the center, they shared car rental contacts. Thanks for making our time on Rapa Nui unforgettable!
