Tupa Hotel

Tupa Hotel felt like a museum of anti-hospitality on Easter Island. We travel a lot, and it confidently ranks as the worst hotel we’ve seen, surpassing even our very low expectations. The service was nonexistent. Complaints were ignored, and the staff acted as if guests were an annoying interruption to their peaceful lives. There was no help, attention, or basic courtesy, which is hard to square with calling this place a hotel. Cleaning seems almost mythical here. The rooms looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned since the island’s first settlers arrived. They felt less like proper rooms than forgotten sheds in an old man’s backyard: dusty and completely uninhabitable. And under the bedsheets, there was an unwelcome surprise: some kind of bugs!

The sheets and bath towels smelled, the bed was uncomfortable, and WiFi only worked near reception. Breakfast was poor, and rustlers right beside the patio door woke me in the middle of the night. There was hardly a part of the hotel that wasn't chipped, scratched, or broken. I can't understand the 8- or 10-star reviews we relied on when booking; they made me wonder if those reviews were fake. This is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in, and I'm giving it one star only because zero or minus one wasn't an option. It badly needs a full renovation.

We left after just one night and found another hotel. The place was shabby, with cockroaches and bugs everywhere, and the very dated bathroom smelled. When we asked to change rooms, we were told cockroaches were expected and normal on an island. I've stayed in all kinds of accommodation while travelling, but this was too shabby for us.

We checked in and were out within an hour. The place was horrible, and I feel sorry for anyone who stays there. We were lucky to find another hotel with availability. Please research carefully before booking. Owners, stop misleading people with fake reviews and get the place together. People spend a lot on a good vacation. I hope they remodel it, and please don't stay here in the meantime.
