Hotel Vai Moana

The chickens were kept right beside our room, and they seemed to attract the roaches. We could see bird droppings just outside the window, which we kept shut. There were cockroaches in the room and coming up through the shower drain. When we asked to move, even though other rooms were available, they refused and left us a can of bug spray. The manager was also unresponsive. It was impossible to relax in that room. The fan they provided barely worked unless you stood right in front of it. If you're hoping for cockroaches and a chance of histoplasmosis, this is the place for you. Godspeed if you stay here.

We could easily walk either to the beach moai or into the center, so the location worked really well. It's a beautiful property with good rooms, and the meals were limited in choice but very good. There was no air conditioning, just a fan. We opened the window and sometimes left the door open while we were inside, and it was manageable.

The breakfast started at 8:30 and they weren't flexible unless you spoke Spanish or were with a large group. There were six of us squeezed around a table meant for four, which made eating uncomfortable. After the room was cleaned, they didn't replace the towels, and hand towels and a floor towel were missing. There was no AC or screen on the window or door, and we ran out of insect repellent. They don't seem to care because they have so much protection and support from the government. Very sad.

The garden felt like an oasis, and the pool was great. Our room had everything we needed for our stay, and shops and restaurants were about a 10-minute walk away. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of tasty local food. It's a warm, welcoming place on Easter Island. Thanks for everything, we'd definitely recommend it for a great island stay.
