The nearby vineyards are worth exploring, especially for their restaurants, some of Chile's best. The hacienda itself feels like stepping into the past and is beautifully preserved. The rooms are spacious and quiet, with lovely views, and you can ride horses around the grounds. There’s a pool, bar, foosball, ping pong, and billiards in the main house. They serve three meals a day at the restaurant, though the food was only okay, perhaps because the place is so remote.

The horseback ride with my two kids lasted two hours and was well worth it. Don Diego and Don Luis took us out into the real Chilean countryside, and they’re genuine country folk. We also had a filling breakfast that kept us going all day. The 18th-century building is remarkable and quite rare in Chile, with big, comfortable rooms set around two courtyards.

One of those places that just makes you go, wow.

The waitress was very attentive, and the place itself was quiet and pleasant for a family lunch. The food, though, was quite bad. My silverside steak with custard came cold, the meat was tough, the custard bland, and the tomatoes weren’t confit. Of the two sirloins, the medium-well one came fully cooked, and the other, ordered cooked, was burnt. The churros were raw, and the mixed salad was pretty meager. Prices are high for food of this quality, so I can’t recommend it.

The menu has plenty of variety, from drinks and desserts to ceviche, and there’s a wine cellar as well as rooms for overnight stays. It’s a lovely spot for a meal, with beautiful old rooms, high ceilings, roomy spaces, and charming hallways. There’s a recreation area with board games and a pool table, plus a swimming pool with lounge chairs. The grounds are landscaped beautifully and have large trees.
