The room isn't large, but it's super comfortable, with some storage, a clean, comfy bed, good pillows, a clean bathroom, and a very good hot shower. We got in really late, at 1:30am, and the owner kindly stayed up to let us check in, which hadn't been the case at other hotels in the area. This is a real Eco Lodge: the rooms are made from old shipping containers and surrounded by trees, with raised paths between the blocks to limit the impact on nature. They're well insulated and use LED lights. Breakfast is served in the shared area for each block, where everyone sits at the same two long tables. It's a nice way to meet other guests. The food is simple but tasty: eggs made to order, bread, cheese, marmalade, butter, coffee, tea, and fresh juice. Great hotel in Las Trancas.

The room was nice, the staff helpful, and breakfast was okay.

Finding somewhere to stay in Las Trancas at night had me worried, so I called ahead and mentioned I was traveling with a "little dog" as an affectionate term, not to suggest he was small. When I arrived, the woman at the door gave me a dirty look because he was large, then said she’d charge an extra 10,000 pesos to let him stay. I didn’t like the remark, the unexpected fee, or her attitude. I politely left without making a scene. A heads-up for anyone traveling with a large pet.

We had the place to ourselves when we stayed in a double room at Refugio de la Luna at the end of last year, so we could use all the facilities. The pool was lovely, and we wandered around the surrounding area too. There’s a wooden walkway between the different spaces that fits nicely into the natural setting and gives the place a rustic feel. Everything was spotless, and the host was very flexible about checkout. We loved it and hope to come back in winter for the snow.

I just tried the pool and really enjoyed it. It was a little messy, maybe because it was the off-season, but it’s still a good place.
