Hotel Costa del Mar

Great.

The one real bright spot was the staff. People in the kitchen and at reception were always ready to help and sort things out. Everything else was a problem for our tour group of 45: the room issues affected every one of us, so this wasn’t just one bad room. There were cobwebs, stained and dirty towels, and black marks around the bathrooms, from the showers to the toilets. The beds felt old, with metal frames you could feel when lying down. The building materials seemed flimsy, and we could hear people snoring next door and flushing toilets because the pipes weren’t blocked. If you’re a light sleeper, don’t expect to sleep. The buffet had little variety and the food wasn’t the best quality. After 9:00 PM the hotel shuts for “internal reasons,” so you have to wait for the receptionist to let you in. The dimly lit area has an unappealing view, and the decor looks completely dated, like a hotel for elderly people, with nothing modern about it.

Our group of 36 was there for five days on a Sernatur trip. The rooms were simple, but very clean, and the bathroom was spotless. The staff were the strongest part of the stay: the dining room and kitchen women were especially good, about a 7 out of 10, and the reception staff were excellent. The hotel is central and close to everything, but the location becomes a real problem at night. Homeless people wander and sleep on that street and the surrounding ones. We felt it was very dangerous to walk around after dark, especially alone. People followed us and asked threatening questions. We were lucky nothing happened the one time we went out, and we made it back around 10 pm.

The receptionist was friendly and helpful, but the sheets weren’t clean. They even had hair from the previous guests. We stayed because it was late and didn’t want to keep searching, but I honestly wouldn’t come back.
